Soil Compaction
The effect of soil compaction is to make it more difficult for moisture, air and nutrients to penetrate the soil. Lack of these three essentials for healthy root growth and the extra work required for the roots to push their way through the compacted soil leads to stunted, shallow root systems. These sub-standard grass roots lead to an increased risk of dehydration and disease. Compressed soil also suffers from an increase in water and nutrient runoff and erosion which can lead to further dehydration of the grass as surface water fails to penetrate the soil to the level of the roots and in the worst cases, can lead to puddling on the soil surface which can rot or further damage the blades of grass.
